Athletes from some participating countries have arrived in Ghana and started preparations ahead of the commencement of the African Athletics Championships.
The 2026 edition will take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium from May 12β17, 2026, featuring top athletes from across the African continent. The opening ceremony is scheduled for May 11.
Botswana is among the countries whose athletes have already arrived, poised to showcase their talent and win medals for their nation.

Athletics powerhouse Ethiopia has also landed in Ghana, with athletes proudly dressed in their red and green national colors and beaming with smiles. Kenyaβs contingent is also in camp, preparing for a successful competition.
The athletes reported to be in camp so far have been seen engaging in training sessions on the track and field at the UG Stadium to familiarize themselves with the environment before the competition officially begins.
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony will take place on May 11, 2026, at the hosting stadium, with top musicians such as Stonebwoy, Edem, and others expected to perform and thrill fans before the games officially start on May 12.
For the Ghanaian contingent, apart from Benjamin Azamati, who has been ruled out due to injury, the rest of the athletes remain focused and committed to making the nation proud in this continental showpiece.
