Real Madrid defender Éder Militão will not feature at the 2026 World Cup for Brazil after being ruled out due to a recent injury.
The centre-back sustained the injury during Los Blancos’ 2-1 win over Alavés in La Liga, which was later assessed by medical staff to determine its severity.
Following examinations, it was revealed that the 28-year-old’s injury had reopened a previous scar, requiring surgical intervention for recovery.

It has been confirmed that Militão will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a major blow to Carlo Ancelotti, who was counting on his presence.
COPE journalist Díaz broke the news on social media. While the club’s initial medical report remained cautious, Díaz confirmed that the clinical reality is far more serious for the player.
“Éder Militão will undergo surgery for his new hamstring injury in his left leg. The Brazilian suffered a recurrence of scar tissue from his initial injury sustained in December against Celta Vigo. Unfortunately, he will miss the World Cup.”
The defender is also expected to miss the start of the 2026/2027 season, with a possible return projected for October.
Militão had been seen as a key figure expected to lead Brazil’s defence at the World Cup, following his strong performances after recovering from injury and helping his side regain form.
