Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has explained that Ghanaian winger Antoine Semenyo’s brilliant performances have led to his decision to play him consistently over Brazilian footballer Savinho.
According to him, Semenyo’s impact on the right wing has made it difficult to drop him, as he has outperformed the Brazilian.
The Spanish manager further indicated that the left-wing role, currently occupied by Jérémy Doku, is also highly competitive, with the Belgian’s attacking threat proving invaluable, winning balls and providing assists.

Speaking to the media after Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Southampton to reach the FA Cup final, Guardiola noted that Savinho’s injury concerns have also contributed to his limited playing time.
“The reason why Savinho didn’t play much was because Antoine Semenyo made an incredible impact. I don’t know if you can find a more decisive winger than Jérémy Doku right now. The threat that guy has is unbelievable. Look at the first goal against Burnley, how he fought, controlled the ball, and assisted Erling Haaland. It’s difficult to find. But you have to be careful with him playing every three days, because of his injury history. That is the reason why Savinho hasn’t played much,” the Manchester City boss said.
Semenyo has had a blistering start to his career at Manchester City. After 12 Premier League games, he has scored five goals and provided one assist, with a total of 15 goals in the League.
