South African coach, Rogerio Paulo Cesar De Sá has emerged as one of the candidates being considered to join Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz’s technical staff as an assistant.

Following Queiroz’s appointment by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), steps are underway to assemble a technical team to assist him in delivering his mandate.

The Portuguese coach is set to be unveiled to the Ghanaian public on Thursday, April 23, 2026, where he will meet the media and provide insight into his role as the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches.

Facts about Roger De Sá:

Playing Career:

The South African is a former goalkeeper who played for Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns, where his exploits earned him the captaincy role at both clubs.

At the international level, he was part of the 1996 South African squad that won their only Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

Club Coaching Career:

De Sá began his coaching career in 2001 at Bidvest Wits, where he stayed for four years. In September 2012, he was appointed coach of Orlando Pirates and won the PSL Coach of the Season award.

He resigned on January 31, 2014. The coach later joined Ajax Cape Town in 2014 but stepped down after a winless start to the 2016/17 PSL season.

In January 2017, Roger was appointed manager of Maritzburg United but parted ways with the club in March of the same year. In September 2017, he became head coach of Platinum Stars following the departure of Peter Butler.

International Coaching Career:

De Sá has built a strong partnership with Carlos Queiroz, working alongside him for many years.

He served as Bafana Bafana’s goalkeeping coach during Queiroz’s tenure and, in September 2021, joined him as assistant coach of the Egyptian national team. He continued with Queiroz as assistant coach of Iran at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In early 2023, De Sá was named coach of the Qatari national team, once again working with Queiroz. In 2025, he coached Cape Town City before taking up a role with the Oman national team.
