Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have suffered a setback after Eddie Nketiah was ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

The Crystal Palace striker picked up the injury in training, with manager Oliver Glasner confirming the forward will not return before the end of the campaign.

“For Eddie, unfortunately, it’s the end of the season,” Glasner said.

The timing is significant for Ghana, as discussions between the Ghana Football Association and the player’s representatives had recently resumed over a potential nationality switch.

Nketiah, who was born in London to Ghanaian parents, has long been on the radar of the Black Stars. Although he represented England at youth level, the 26-year-old has kept the door open for a senior switch, with reports suggesting optimism around securing his commitment ahead of the World Cup.

However, his latest injury has effectively halted those plans, forcing the GFA to reassess their options as they look to strengthen their attacking line.

Ghana have already secured qualification for the tournament but are entering a period of transition following the dismissal of Otto Addo.

With the World Cup fast approaching, Nketiah’s absence is a blow both in terms of squad planning and the potential addition of a proven forward to boost Ghana’s attacking options.
