A member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, Frederick Acheampong, has disclosed that Otto Addo was stunned when he was informed of his dismissal as Black Stars coach.
He revealed that the former Borussia Dortmund scout had scheduled a meeting with GFA officials that did not take place. When the FA made a decision about his future after the Germany friendly, a meeting was eventually held.
Fred Acheampong indicated that Otto Addo voiced his grievances to the GFA, the main one being the delayed payment of salaries, which the association acknowledged.

“He did not take it easily, to be honest with you. He had called for a meeting earlier, so when the invitation was extended to him, they gave him the opportunity to voice his concerns, during which he discussed a lot of things, including financial issues. So afterward, we thanked him and admitted that his concerns were genuine,” he said in Twi during an interview with Kessben FM.
The GFA ExCo member revealed that afterward, the association relayed its decision to relieve him of his role as head coach, leaving Otto Addo shocked.
Acheampong further disclosed that Addo felt the decision was unfair, arguing that it should have been made when he failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), not after qualifying the team for the World Cup. However, he eventually accepted the decision.
“And we told him we couldn't continue with him, and he said, ‘What?’ He felt we should have sacked him after the AFCON qualifiers, and we didn’t. Now that he has qualified the team, the decision has been taken. So, probably he did not expect it at all,” Acheampong added.
This comes after the Black Stars’ disastrous performance in the March 2026 international friendlies, where they were humiliated 5-1 by Austria before losing 2-1 to Germany.
