Ghanaian coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has expressed strong belief in Gor Mahia’s chances of winning the Kenyan Premier League, insisting that his side remains focused on their title pursuit.
The former Black Stars coach whose team currently leads the standings, emphasized that the title race is far from over.
“It’s too early to say. We have nine matches to go, and it means we have to be serious about everything. Every match should be taken seriously because that is the final match,” Akonnor said.
He acknowledged the team’s mixed run of results but highlighted their overall consistency as a key factor behind their position at the top.
“We’ve lost some, but we’ve won the majority of the games. We’ll continue to work hard and believe in our capacity as a team that we can go places,” he added.
Akonnor also credited his success to the technical team he assembled, largely made up of Ghanaian backroom staff.
“I wouldn’t have done it without them. I insisted on having them, and thankfully, I have no regrets. This is the best technical team I have ever had, and they are doing so well,” he noted.
Looking ahead, the 2026 target is clear for the experienced tactician.
“To win the league, of course. I’m looking forward to it,” he concluded.
