Former Black Stars defender, Hans Adu Sarpei has dismissed comparisons between Ghana’s current national team and the country’s iconic 2010 squad, insisting that the two sides are “totally different.”

Speaking in an interview with Joy Sports, Sarpei stressed that the circumstances, player profiles, and team dynamics of the present-day Black Stars cannot be measured against the team that made history at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

“Don’t compare our 2010 squad with this squad. Totally different,” he said.

“The mentality, the experience, and even the way we played as a unit were not the same. Every generation has its own identity, so we have to allow this team to grow in its own way,” he added .

The 2010 Black Stars side remains one of Ghana’s most celebrated teams, having reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in South Africa, the country’s best-ever performance at the tournament.

With a new generation of players and evolving tactical approaches, discussions have intensified about whether the present squad can replicate past successes.

However, the former defender believes such comparisons are unfair and fail to consider the unique context of each era, urging supporters to judge the current team on its own merits rather than through the lens of past achievements.
