The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed that the decision to part ways with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo was finalised immediately after Ghana’s 5-1 defeat to Austria, not after their 2-1 loss to Germany.
Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong told Kessben FM that the outcome of the Germany friendly was irrelevant to the decision.
“Irrespective of the outcome of the Germany match, Otto Addo was going to be sacked. The decision was formulated after the Austria match; we were just buying time,” he explained.
Addo, 50, led Ghana to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but his tenure was inconsistent against stronger teams.
The Black Stars will regroup in May for friendlies against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2 as part of their World Cup preparations.
Ghana will appear at their fifth World Cup, competing in Group L with England, Croatia, and Panama, aiming to reach the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
