Medeama SC surged back to the top of the Ghana Premier League table with a composed and authoritative 2-0 victory over bottom-placed Eleven Wonders at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on Friday, reigniting their title ambitions at a decisive stage of the campaign.
The Mauve and Yellow now hold a narrow one-point lead over reigning champions Bibiani Gold Stars FC, who are yet to feature this round. Their grip on the summit, however, remains under threat, with Gold Stars set to travel north to face Karela United FC on Sunday in a fixture that could reshape the argument of the table.
Medeama wasted little time asserting its dominance. Their early pressure paid off in the 22nd minute when striker Kelvin Obeng opened the scoring, reacting sharply to a pinpoint corner delivery from Fatawu Sulemana to steer home a well-taken header from a tight angle.
The hosts doubled their advantage just six minutes later, as Salim Adams produced a moment of quality with a trademark free-kick that left the goalkeeper with no chance.
In full control thereafter, Medeama dictated the tempo and enjoyed the lion’s share of possession, carving out several opportunities across both halves. While they were unable to extend their lead further, their overall performance reflected authority and intent, ending a frustrating winless streak and restoring confidence within the squad.
Focus now shifts to Sunday’s clash in Tamale, where Gold Stars must secure maximum points to reclaim top spot. Any result short of victory will ensure Medeama remain at the summit after Matchday 27, as the title race continues to gather intensity heading into the final stretch of the season.
