Senegal has confirmed plans to publicly parade the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy before their friendly against Peru on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Stade de France in Paris.

This, according to them, is to underscore the country’s refusal to accept the Confederation of African Football (CAF) 's controversial ruling that awarded the title to Morocco.

The Lions of Teranga initially claimed their second AFCON crown on January 18, 2026, defeating Morocco 1-0 in extra time during a tense final.

The match erupted into chaos when a stoppage-time penalty was awarded to Morocco while the game remained scoreless, prompting Senegal players to leave the field in protest.

CAF later reversed the outcome, handing Morocco a 3-0 victory and citing Senegal’s early exit as a breach of competition rules.

In response, Senegal filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which has confirmed receipt of the case and promised a swift ruling.

At a press briefing in Paris, the Senegalese Football Federation president
Abdoulaye Fall condemned CAF’s decision as “the most blatant and unprecedented administrative robbery in the history of our sport.”

Fall emphasized that Senegal would not relinquish its trophy and described the upcoming parade as a statement of principle.

“Senegal will not bend the knee and will not compromise its values. Our fight now transcends the football pitch,” he said.

With the parade set for Saturday, tensions remain high as fans await CAS’s final verdict to determine who will officially hold the 2025 AFCON crown.
