Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has said that Derrick Kohn has a strong chance of joining the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Kohn was born in Hamburg and initially played for Germany’s U19 team, making one appearance for the DFB against Cyprus in 2017.
In 2025, the defender switched his international allegiance to represent Ghana, the country of his parents’ origin. He made his senior national team debut in November, featuring in a 2–0 defeat to Japan.
Otto Addo praised Kohn for choosing to represent Ghana at the international level and urged him to continue excelling to secure a place in the final squad for the tournament.
“We are happy that he has chosen Ghana. He participated in the two test matches in November and made a good impression. He has a very good chance of being at the World Cup,” he said, as reported by German outlet Bild.
The Black Stars coach noted that Kohn must perform at the highest level to earn a spot in the team, as the wing position is highly competitive.
“We have many good wingers. But I never rule anything out. It depends on the opponent and the situation; we are flexible. You can also play with a left winger who is more defensively oriented,” he added.
