Ghana Premier League legend, Charles Taylor has voiced strong disappointment in the treatment of ex-footballers within Ghana’s football system, accusing some former players of contributing to the struggles of the local game.
Speaking candidly, Taylor criticized what he described as a culture that places more value on players who featured for foreign clubs over those who built their careers locally.
“In Ghana, if you aren’t considered successful, you won’t be respected. The respect is often given to those who played for foreign teams."
“This is why the nation suffers, and the local players also suffer. This is what is affecting us,” Charles Taylor said on Angel TV.
The former Hearts of Oak star spoke candidly about the influence of some ex-players, criticizing their actions and suggesting they are undermining the growth and development of football in the country.
“You invite hatred if you speak the truth. Some former players are being wicked, and this is affecting our local players,” he stated.
Taylor also raised concerns about alleged favoritism in opportunities for former players, particularly regarding participation in activities linked to the FIFA World Cup.
“There are slots available for former players to be present at the World Cup, but some kind of favoritism has been introduced,” he alleged. “I was even called by a former player about a link being shared to apply for the World Cup, which really surprised me.”
“Most of the ex-players in this country are very wicked,” Taylor added.
