Former CAF Vice President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has strongly criticised the decision by the Confederation of African Football to overturn the outcome of the 2025 AFCON final, describing it as a dangerous precedent for the game.
CAF’s ruling, which awarded Morocco a 3–0 forfeit victory months after the final against Senegal, has already sparked widespread debate across global football.
But Nyantakyi’s intervention adds significant weight to the growing criticism.
“The decision to reverse the outcome of AFCON 2025 is an assault on the integrity of the game,” he told Sporty FM.
Nyantakyi, who previously served at the highest levels of CAF, questioned not just the outcome, but the broader implications of the ruling. According to him, altering a final result long after the match has been played sets a troubling benchmark, one that could open the door for future disputes to be settled off the pitch rather than on it.
How international media reported CAF’s controversial ruling on AFCON 2025
The controversy stems from CAF’s application of its disciplinary rules following a protest-related walkout by Senegal during the final.
While CAF maintains that its decision was grounded in its regulations, critics argue that the timing and severity of the ruling raise serious concerns about fairness and consistency.
