Antoine Semenyo’s February triumph at Manchester City adds his name to a very exclusive group of Ghanaian footballers who have ever claimed the Premier League Player of the Month award.
Before Semenyo, only two other Ghanaians had achieved the feat.
Tony Yeboah was the first, earning the honour twice while playing for Leeds United in March and September 1995.
Renowned for his thunderous strikes and clinical finishing, Yeboah left an indelible mark on English football and remains one of the Premier League’s most celebrated African exports.
The second Ghanaian to win the award was André Ayew, who did so in August 2015 during his time at Swansea City.
Ayew’s technical skill, vision, and work rate helped him stand out in the Premier League, reinforcing Ghana’s reputation for producing top-class talent capable of performing on the biggest stages.

Semenyo now becomes the third, making history with an impressive debut month at City where he scored three goals and provided an assist in just five appearances.
Like Yeboah and Ayew before him, Semenyo’s performances have demonstrated the flair, versatility, and attacking instinct that Ghanaian players are known for.
The accolade also underscores how Ghana continues to leave its mark in the Premier League decades after Yeboah’s iconic days and Ayew’s contributions, proving that the country’s footballing talent remains at the forefront of English top-flight football.
