SWAG opens nominations for new officers

Accra, Jan. 20, GNA - The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has opened nominations for its members interested in vying for various positions on the Executive Committee to run its affairs for the next four years.

A statement from the secretariat of the Association said the nominations, which open on Thursday, January 20, will end on Friday, January 28. According to the statement, members are to contact the secretariat at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra to pick nomination forms. It said members are to pay a nomination fee based on the position they are vying for.

The statement said only active and members in good standing will be eligible to vote and be voted for during the elections. Among the positions to be contested for are the President, Vice President, General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, Financial Secretary/Treasurer and two Executive Committee members. It said the Elections Committee will, after the nominations announce the date for the elections.

It called on members to effectively participate in the exercise. The statement also called on members to contact the secretariat for the payment of outstanding dues and other commitments to the Association.

The term of the current Executive Committee expired last December, 2010. The statement said members can also contact Hamid Issaka of the National Sports Council (NSC) for further clarifications. 20. Jan. 10
