Cycling Association elects Executive Committee members

Accra, June 2, GNA - The First Delegates Congress of the Ghana Cycling Association has elected Mr Mohammed Sahnoon unopposed as the new President for the Association.

Sahnoon leads the elected members of the Executive Committee to steer the affairs of the sport for the next four years during the First National Delegates Congress at the Media Center, Ohene Djan Sports Stadium on Monday 31st May, 2010.

It would be recalle d that Sahnoon, who represented River Park Cycling Club, Accra he held the same position until last year when new Executives were appointed as against the statutes of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Congress delegates were drawn from affiliated Cycling Clubs across the country in accordance with the GCA Constitution. The democratic process was in fulfilment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Cycling Union's (UCI) requirements for the Association. The Secretary General of the Association, Williams Kyei in a release copied to GNA Sports said other Executives officers elected were Teye Doku of Young Stars Cycling Club, Vice President, Albert N. A. Oku from All Stars Cycling Club, Treasurer.

Three positions for Executive members also went unopposed with Ali Umar of Pace Setters Cycling Club, Tamale, Hassan Musah of HM Cycling Club, Prampram and Amen Ametor Ho Cycling Club getting the nod with Williams Kyei as the Secretary-General.

The newly elected Executive Committee members were sworn into office by the Chief Administrative Officer of the National Sports Council, Mr Enoch Hornsby-Odoi. The Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council, Mr Wolanyo Agra called on the new Executive members to mobilise the needed resources to develop the sport to enable the members achieve excellence.

Mr Sahnoon in an acceptance speech, thanked all the delegates for the successful conduct of the Congress and called on them to support the work of the newly-elected Executive Committee of the Asociation.

He said it is opportune time for members to collaborate to change the phase of cycling in the country and expressed optimum commitment of the executives to fulfil the mandate entrusted in them to rapidly develop the sport.
