Medeama wins Western U-17

Accra, March 15, GNA - Dompim-based Young Medeama produced a spirite= d feat to pip Ankara FC of Tarkwa 1-0 in the finals of the Western Region Coca-Cola U-17 soccer tourney at the Gyandu Park, Sekondi. The champions scored the only goal of the match through Jacob Asiedu=

Appau in the later stages of the second half to enable his side win the competition and eventually grab the ultimate trophy.

Medeama FC as their prize for winning the ultimate went home with a trophy, cash prize of GH¢400, a set of jerseys and Coca-Cola products. Asiedu Appau was adjudged the best player, as well as the joint top scorer with Ebenezer Boadi of Zamalek in the two-day tourney after they b= oth scored four goals apiece.

Ankara FC also took home GH¢350 and Coca-Cola products as the losi= ng finalists, while Zamalek who beat Bogoso-based Barcelona 3-0 on penalties= in the third-place game received A2300, a plaque and Coca-Cola products.

Prior to the start of the championship, coaches' Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie, Francis Oti Akenten and Anthony Baffoe, conducted the registrati= on exercise for the participating clubs as part of efforts to ensure fairnes= s. Madam Asenath Commey, a representative of Coca-Cola stated the compa= ny's commitment to developing grassroots football in the country. The participating teams were Barcelona-Bogoso, Ankara-Tarkwa, Apramd= u United, Takoradi, Zamalek - Takoradi, Arsenal-Takoradi, Young Kotoko - Takoradi, Young Medeama - Dompim and Soccer Babies - Enchi. 15 March 10
