Rahim Ayew explains Abedi Pele's Zamalek visit

ZAMALEK Sporting Club's Ghanaian ace, Rahim Ayew has debunked assertions in a cross section of the Ghanaian media that he personally invited his dad, Abedi Ayew Pele to Cairo to intercede on his behalf to enable him get a starting place in the star-studded Zamalek side. It would be recalled that, Abedi visited Rahim at Zamalek's training base last Friday and took the opportunity to interact with the Cairo based team's officials including technical head, Henri Michel. This had led to some comments in the media that Rahim is seeking the help of his father to convince the Zamalek hierarchy to get him a starting place after reportedly being overlooked by the technical handlers. Some shared the opinion that the 'Maestro' held a series of meetings with the new coach on the advice of Rahim, who recently signed a five year deal with the 5 time CAF Champions League winners.

But calling this newspaper from his Egyptian base, the former Eleven Wise player vehemently denied this: "I am not happy with the way some media houses back home are making up stories that I personally invited my dad here to plead on my behalf to enable me get into the first eleven," he continued.

"I believe it's a figment of someone's imagination and want to put it on record that my dad was in Cairo to attend a CAF meeting. It is true that my dad (Abedi Pele) was at our training grounds on Friday but he did not come over because I called him. He is in the country for a CAF organized programme and decided to take time of his busy schedule to a watch me at training like every loving father would do. My dad never came here to beg Henri Michel to give me more playing time and that is the fact of the matter. I was not playing with the team during their pre-season games because I was I injured and that is the truth,” he added.
