GFA to honour past Chairmen, sponsors on Aug. 26

Accra, Aug. 22, GNA - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will on Wednesday, August 26, honour past Chairmen and sponsors of the sport for their contributions to the development of the game in the country. The awards ceremony which would climax the opening day of this year's annual GFA Congress is to show appreciation for the significant role played by the former Chairmen as well as past and current sponsors to the growth of the sport.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, GFA President at the media launch of the awards on Friday, said the event, which expected to be an annual affair is also to encourage football administrators and sponsors to maximize efforts and resources towards the development of the game.

He explained that the roll call of administrators includes past Chairmen of the GFA dating back to 1957, while those who have passed on will be honoured posthumously.

Nyantakyi added that the awards category for sponsors have been classified into four groups in relation to the quantum of sponsorship towards the game.

He named them as the Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze categories.

On behalf of the sponsors, Dr Tony Aubyn, Corporate Affairs Director of Gold Fields Ghana Limited, the Headline sponsors of the Black Stars commended the GFA for acknowledging their role in the game while pledging continuous support towards the development of football. Among sponsors to be honoured are Gold Fields Ghana Limited, Glo Mobile Ghana, Continental Commodities Training Company (CCTC), Guinness Ghana Limited and Voltic Ghana Limited.
