Awako, Telfer join Black Stars

Ghana youth international midfielder Gladson Awako and David Telfer have joined the Black Stars for Wednesday’s friendly against Zambia.

The two players were invited by coach Milovan Rajevac following the withdrawal of several players because of visa problems.

The duo was on trials with English clubs when they were handed the surprise call to train with the national team.

But they could stay if they impress the Serbian manager.

Thus the number of players in camp has risen to 17 following the arrival of Harrison Afful, Switzerland-based Samuel Inkoom and goalkeeper William Amamoo.

All the key players including captain Stephen Appiah, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, John Pantsil and Eric Addo.

Others in camp are Haminu Dramani, Anthony Annan, Junior Agogo, Chris Dickson, Kwame Quansah and shot stopper George Owoo.

Meanwhile, Matthew Amoah has joined camp even though he is yet to recover from the knock he suffered at the weekend in the Dutch top-flight league.

The striker who plays for NAC Breda will stay out of action for two weeks.

The Black Stars trained at the plush Tottenham Hotspur Lodge training ground in Chigwell at the instance of Fifa match agent Justin Addo.

They are the first African side to train at the expensive facility.
