Liberty force Hearts to share points

Accra, May 10, GNA - Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals and Accra Hearts of Oak shared honours at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra, in their 17th Week Glo Premier League match played on Sunday. Contrary to higher expectations ahead of the match, especially of Hearts fans of getting an easy win, the two sides sold out an unimpressive outing in the first 20 minutes of the game, but it was homesters, Liberty, who were presented with a perfect opportunity to open the scores in the 21st minute.

Liberty's skipper Bawa Mumuni however failed to convert a penalty kick his side when his shot hit the cross bar to deny his side the lead. Hearts from then made a swift response to the threat but were unable to make a clean breakthrough in the defence of their opponents despite the combined efforts of Eric Gawu and Samuel Affum as the first half ended on a barren note.

The second half saw an improved performance from the two sides, but it was not enough to create any difference between the two sides. The atmosphere came about as a result of the near misses by the strikers of the both sides, with Hearts however coming closer in the 46th and 82nd minutes, whilst Liberty, who were reduced by a one man following the exit of Eric Boakye for violent conduct also missed scoring chances in 75th and 85th minutes. By the score line, Hearts still remains on top of the League with 39 points, whilst Liberty made a point's improvement to 21 points. The supporters of Hearts were however unhappy with the referee decisions as he denied them with at least three clear penalty chances to their chagrin.
