Premier league in shatters

THE SCHEDULED resumption of the Ghana Premier League is not likely to materialise as there are doubts whether the Accra Stadium will be reopened.

This follows the closure of the stadium after 126 lives were lost after a league match between rivals Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak on May 9.

A source close to the National Sports Council is quoted as saying negotiations with the Government over the refurbishment of the stadium site is currently going on after the tragedy.

The source added that before opening the stadium for league matches, the Council together with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association would have to seek the consent of the Presidential Commission before re-opening the stadium for league matches to be played.
