Pope sympathises with Ghanaians on stadium tragedy

Pope John Paul II has sent a message of condolence to President John Agyekum Kufuor and the bereaved families of the victims of last Wednesday's stadium disaster in which 127 people died.

A message from the Vatican, read to the press by Archbishop Peter Appiah Turkson, President of the Catholics Bishops' Conference, said the Pope conveyed his heartfelt condolences to President Kufuor and to the families of the victims.
The Pope also prayed for the eternal repose of the dead and implored God's gifts of consolation and peace on all the mourners.
