IPMC 6th Week Hockey League Thrills

- CEPS Maintain Unbeaten Record

The National Hockey Pitch was once again set ablaze with enthusiasm after a three week break to allow the National U-21 teams participate in the Africa Cup of Nations in Cairo Egypt. Lovers and fans of hockey gathered in their numbers as early as 6:30am to watch the first match of the day and stayed on till after the last match of the day. Crowning the day with what the fans described as one of the best matches witnessed this season, unbeaten league leaders CEPS were held to a goalless drawn game by a high spirited Trustees in a spectacular A-league game. Coming in as underdogs, Trustees fielding all six of their players who featured in the Under-21 Championship in Cairo and played a determined and persistent attacking game earned them eleven penalty corners as against two from CEPS. Both teams made a lot of surging runs into their opponents’ area but it was Trustees who emerged slightly on top with some good ball possession. All efforts from Trustees to break the unbeaten run of CEPS were to no avail as the experienced CEPS defence stood resolute.

In the Senior League, Leaders NDK Financiers bounced back to their winning ways as they trashed Veterans by 5 goals to 1, whiles Multistix suffered yet another defeat at the hands of Citizens, going down 3-2 in a closely fought contest. It was a day Multistix would not like to remember for a long time after taking the lead in the early minutes of the match, and allowing Citizens come back to fetch the equaliser just before the end of the first half. The second half saw Citizens taking the lead, but Multistix fought back strongly to fetch the equaliser after mounting an intense pressure in the Citizens area. The tides turned in the dying minutes of the game when Citizens finally clinched the winner through a beautiful solo effort goal scored by Dr. Agbeko Ocloo.

The results of the matches were as follows:
