Attuquayefio lauds new GHALCA Top Four format

Accra, July 24, GNA - Liberty Professionals' Technical Director, Cecil Jones Attuquayefio has lauded this year's upgrading of the Ghana League Club Association's (GHALCA) Top Four soccer tournament. The organizers have said that the first and second placed Clubs will battle each other for the ultimate trophy scheduled to kick-start on August 24, which the veteran coach insists will bring an added value to the event.

The top placed club after the round-robin involving the four clubs in a league format is previously adjudged the winner. Coach Attuquayefio told GNA Sports on Thursday after his Club's training session at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park that "It is always good to infuse fresh ideas to bring more competitiveness into such championship."

He said that the upgrading is geared towards the development and promotion of the game in the country and should be embraced by all. The veteran trainer explained that his team began its training this week after a brief break to prepare for the tournament they will be competing alongside league champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kpando Heart of Lions and Berekum Arsenal.

"We just started training and we will engage in some trial matches to fine-tune our preparations for the Top Four Championship." Coach Attuquayefio hinted that his outfit has roped in some fresh limbs who will be expected to combine with the old guards to work towards their title dreams.

Though he was tightlipped on the identity of the new players, he was optimistic their inclusion will boost their chances in the competition.

The 2001 African Coach of the year reiterated that his side has set their sights on the title and will do all within their reach to achieve it.

Meanwhile, Liberty Professionals will engage a select-side of foreign-based players currently on holidays in a friendly game on Friday, July 25 at their home grounds, Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman. The match kicks off at 7:30am.
