Olympics spanked by visiting Ashgold

Accra, May 28, GNA - Bottom club Accra Great Olympics suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of visiting Obuasi Ashantigold in their 21st Week Onetouch Premier League match at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday.

With relegation stirring at Oly almost every week, following series of poor results in the premiership, Olympics exhibited some amount of determination at the start of the game but succumbed to the might of the visitors in the 12th minute.

Emmanuel Adjetey expectedly converted a free-kick from the edge of the box with back from injury goalie Joseph Halm failing to provide an answer.

The challenge seemed to be accepted by Olympics as they made efforts at canceling the lead, but failed with Michael Ocansey and Basit Abdul blowing away some decent chances that came their way.

The 'Miners' who played to a set pattern increased the tally seven minutes later through a similar fashion, when they earned another free kick which was again expertly executed at the edge of the box by Owusu Sefa to once again beat keeper Halm for the second goal.

The humiliating defeat compelled the technical team of the "Wonder Club' to make early changes to the team with veteran Paa Joe Kumah coming on for Basit Abdul, but the change failed to provide an antidote to their striking headache as they remained indebted at the close of the half.

The second half was no different as the two sides struggled to undo each other, but it was the Miners who were on target again as they capitalized on a perfect opportunity to score the third goal. The goal this time round came through a nice combination between Richard Awuah and Alex Asamoah.

Awuah who was a constant threat to the defence of Olympics in the 58th minute raced deep into the area of the "Dade boys" to deliver a perfect cross for lurking Asamoah to slot in the ball after the defence of the homesters had fumbled to make a clearance.

Ashgold from this stage dominated proceeding and created series of clear cut chances but failed to convert them, whilst Olympics had to struggle each time to make an entry into the defensive system of the visitors even after an Ashgold player was shown the red card for elbowing an Oly player. Olympics has thus been handed a difficult task of survival in the premiership.
