Le Roy admits Ivory Coast contact

After vehemently denying that he had any contacts with South Africa authorities over coaching the country's national team, Ghana's sneaky French coach has finally admitted he is in contact with Ivory Coast over the vacant Elephants coaching post.

Le Roy, who is fast losing the trust of players of the national team and Ghanaians, was forced to admit in a radio interview that he had a conversation with Leo Marshall, the technical director of the Ivorian FA, over the job.

Even though the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had assured the Frenchman- after he failed to the win the African Cup Nations trophy on home soil in February - that his contract will be extended he opted to speak with the Ivorians.

Aware that high profile world-class coaches had applied for the Ivorian job which means he had little chance, Le Roy has made a dramatic U-turn saying Ghana is his first option.

"He (Martial) approached me in Cairo and said he had heard I had not signed an extension with Ghana and that I could be of interest to them," Le Roy told Radio Gold.

"You never know what can come of these things but that is as far as I went with him."

While LeRoy claims to want to stay he also added that nothing was certain and that his family will play a key part in any decision he makes.

His revelation has sparked angry reaction from fans and club administrators in Ghana including Alhaji Grunsah- owner of King Faisal, who wants the Frenchman to be shown the door.

Some of the fury has been directed at the GFA following its unwavering backing to the Frenchman in the wake of Le Roy's contested link to the South African job.

GFA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi went ahead to offer the Frenchman a two-year contract this week but the critics says the Frenchman might leave the Black Stars in the middle of the World Cup qualifiers which start in June if he gets a better offer.

Ghana will play four crucial qualifiers for the 2010 African Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers with the last one scheduled for June 26th, two days before the expiration of his contract.

Results in those four games may well prove decisive in whether he will see Ghana through the 2010 qualifiers or not.
