Le Roy leaves with 22 for CHAN match

Twenty-two players have made Ghana’s travelling party to Tamale to continue with preparations for the weekend’s African Nations Championship match against Niger.

Claude Le Roy and his backroom staff departed Accra Friday morning to Tamale, the match venue.

Ghana's selected players were picked from a tall list of 41 called up last week by the technical team of the Black Stars for the preliminary round qualifier. The new tournament designed by CAF for players who play in the various domestic leagues in Africa.

Accra Hearts of Oak's Tawfiq Gibrine, who turns 16 this year made it into the squad dominated by players from Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

Ghana will host the first leg fixture on Sunday, March 30 at the Tamale Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars drawn in Zone West B play Niger at the newly constructed 20,000 all-seater capacity stadium before travelling to Niamey in two weeks time for the reverse fixture.

The Africa Nations Championships is a new tournament designed by CAF for only home-based players of its member countries and it will hosted by Ivory Coast from the 22nd of February till the 8th of March 2009.

Fatau Dauda (AshantiGold) Sam Ayew and Kofi Nti Boakye (Liberty Professionals), Richard Manu, Prince Anokye, Harrison Afful, Jordan Opoku, Francis Akwafo and Eric Bekoe (Asante Kotoko).

Ekow Benson (Tema Youth) Joseph Addo (Hasaacas) David Nii Addy (Wa All Stars) Francis Mantey (Olympics FC), John Boye, Edmund Owusu Ansah, Dominic Adiyiah, Emmanuel Banahene (Heart of Lions).

Agyeman Badu (Arsenals) Hannan Giwa and Kwame Adzagbah (Real Tamale United) Baba Iddi (Kessben FC) Tawfiq Gibrine (Hearts of Oak).
