Appiah predicts Nations Cup triumph for Black Stars

Accra, Feb. 5, GNA - Stephen Appiah, the inspirational captain of the national soccer team, the Black Stars on Tuesday expressed optimism that the Stars would lift the trophy on February 10 The injured Captain said if the players continued to exhibit the same character they showed during the quarterfinal clash with the Nigerian Super Eagles last Sunday, they would be crowned champions of Africa.

He said the determination and gusto exhibited by the Stars after the exit of John Mensah was very commendable, adding that with such determination and commitment, Ghana would win against the Cameroonians on Thursday.

Appiah told newsmen in Accra that watching matches from the bench had been hectic for him, considering his zeal and passion for the game and his desire to join his colleague play for Ghana. He said he would be patient and reserve his skills for the big stage in 2010.

The flamboyant midfielder called on all Ghanaians to continue to spur the Black Stars on to victory as the players concentrated on mapping out strategies to win their matches.

He called on all to join him and John Mensah on Wednesday at the Accra Mall from 1500 hours to 1800 hours to rally support for the Black Stars.
