Gyamfi keen to help Ghana

Ghanaian football legend CK Gyamfi says he is keen to use his experience to help the national team emerge from its current slump.

Gyamfi is seeing out a contract with the Seychelles FA but has already been sounded out to work with Black Stars coach Jones Attuquayefio, who is under fire after three successive defeats.

Three of Ghana's four Cup of Nations triumphs came under Gyamfi, making him the most succesful coach in the competition.

He has recently been working as a technical advisor to the Seychelles' Under-17 side, but says a plan for him to help the Ghanaian national team has already been suggested.

"The chairman of the Football Association came out and said he wanted myself and Ben Kuoffie and Sam Arday to work with the current coach Attuquayefio."

Gyamfi is keen to revive Ghana's fortunes

Gyamfi''s success with the Black Stars is spread over nearly 20 years. In 1963 he was in charge as his nation lifted the trophy for the first time.

Hat-trick of successes

Two years later and on home soil he repeated the feat and is still the only coach in Africa to lead a side to successive Cup of Nations titles.

The hat-trick of successes was completed in 1982 when Gyamfi coached the Black Stars to glory in Libya.

He is clearly disturbed by the plight of his homeland. "When I heard the news that Liberia had beaten Ghana in Ghana, I was surprised. Again, Sudan beating Ghana is another thing."

Gyamfi believes a real analysis of what is going wrong is required and wants to play his part.

"We need all hands on deck, and as a Ghanaian, I think I would respond to it."

Gyamfi's contract with the Football Associaiton of the Seychelles ends shortly and he is due to return to Accra on March 6.
