Netball Association Organizes Workshop

Tamale (N/R), July 14, - The Netball Association of Ghana (NAG) has organised a coaching workshop for physical education organisers of basic schools in the Northern region. The three-day workshop which was attended by over 35 participants, discussed umpiring, coaching, interpretation of the rules and ball handling. Mr H.N. Zaato, regional director of manpower of the Ghana Education Service in a closing address, stressed the need to tap the potentials of the youth through the combination of academic and phy He said the neglect of sportsmen and women after serving the nation undermines the development of talents and suggested the establishment of an endownment fund to cater for and compensate retire Mr Zaato advised physical education organisers to explore new ways of imparting skills to attract and develop the interest of their pupils. Mr E.D. Nikoi, chairman of the NAG who was also the course director, said the association intends to update the skills of coaches at school level by holding a series of courses and workshops thr Mr E.N. Naaso, regional chairman of basic schools sports association, welcomed such workshops saying most schools lack the basic knowledge of the game. He cautioned participants against using the skills acquired to challenge umpires. They should rather assist in getting more people to participate in the game. The participants appealed to the NAG and the National Sports Council to make available balls and other equipment to promote the game especially in the region.
