Amaglug-glug squad for Ghana

Amaglug-glug coach Steve Komphela has quickly taken note of the heat that they will face in Ghana when they meet the West African country in an Olympic qualifier on October 14.

Komphela admits that after the pre-inspection tour of Ghana, he has noted that the hot weather conditions will add yet another challenge as they try to re-instate a mission that has fallen off the rails.

“Although the inhabitants are very hospitable and passionate, the heat in Ghana is unbearable,” says Komphela.

Naming his squad on Tuesday morning, Komphela strangely included Kaizer Chiefs winger Thuso Phala as a defender.

Defending his decision, Komphela said: “We have brought in Thuso as a defender because of the strategy that we will use there. The boy is familiar with the position because he has played there before.”

The Amaglug-glug team is due to go into camp on Sunday before flying off to West Africa next Wednesday.

The 25-memember squad called up will be trimmed down to 20.

The Under-23's will play their opponents at the Elwak Stadium, a military venue in the capital Accra.

Minus suspended Lance Davids and injured Jeffrey Ntuka, Thapelo Tshilo and Innocent Mdledle have been brought to fortify a defence that was leaking during the recent 3-1 loss to Ghana.

The squad named today is:

Goalkeepers: Senzo Meyiwa (Orlando Pirates) and Itumeleng Khune (Kaizer Chiefs)

Defenders: Tshepo Masilela (Maccabi Haifa, Israel), Bryce Moon (Ajax Cape Town), James Madidilani, Tumelo Nhlapo (both Bloemfontein Celtic), Innocent Mdledle (Orlando Pirates), Rudi Isaacs, Bongani Khumalo (both SuperSport United), Thuso Phala (Kaizer Chiefs) and Thapelo Tshilo (Jomo Cosmos)
