Senior Cadet Wins Armed Forces Steeplechase Competition

Accra (GAR), July 11, - Senior Cadet George N. Dotey of Abyssinia Platoon today clocked 53 minutes 47 seconds to emerge winner of this year's 12 kilometre steeple chase competition organised by He was followed closely by Flight Cadet E. Tweneboah Kodua of Abyssinia and Senior Cadet G. K. Wilson, Burma platoon, who clocked 55 minutes 17sec. and 56m, 59sec respectively. Captain M. P. Dankwa of the Ghana Navy presented a trophy and a certificate to the winner. The first and second runners up received a certificate each while the over all best platoon went to Abyssinia with 289 points. Captain Dankwa said the competition is to test the physical and mental endurance, determination and foster unity among cadets. He said the competition forms part of the activities marking the 37th graduation of the regular career course and the 36th graduation of short services and special duties courses. In all, 41 cadets are expected to graduate from the academy in August this year. Captain Dankwa urged them to be physically fit always. The existing record of the competition still stands at 45m four seconds set by senior cadet S. Aryeetey of the 1986 batch.
