Soccer fans disillusioned about performance of Stars

Hohoe, (V/R) Aug 22, GNA - Most soccer fans at Hohoe in the Volta Region have expressed their disillusionment about the performance of the Black Stars in their international friendly match against the Teranga Lion's of Senegal in which they drew one-all at the New Den Park in London.

The fans expressed their disappointment to GNA Sports at a popular sports arena in the town, noting that for once the Stars' failed to glitter on the night perhaps to the absence of their inspirational captain, Stephen Appiah and John Mensah, the Star's stalwart defender all due to injuries.

The soccer fanatics wondered why the Stars failed to dazzle with greater part of the game being played on Ghana's half, especially in the second half.

Yaw Fato, a sports fan said the team played as if there was nothing at stake, but that even though it was a friendly, the result could have boosted the country's standing in the FIFA rankings and for that they ought to have been serious.

John Azutor said the Senegalese looked stronger, agile and dictated the pace of the game, always taking the fight to the Stars while they enjoyed kicking the ball in their own half.

He entreated the Coach, Claude Le Roy to assemble his team early for the impending CAN 2008 to iron out the rough edges, saying it would despair many to host the games and to lose the ultimate. The fans however appreciated the call up of juveniles to blend the fortunes of the team.
