Bahmed gives to Onetouch SWAG-Awards

Accra, Aug 16, GNA - One of the leading travel and tour agency in the country, Bahmed Travel and Tours Ghana Limited on Thursday, donated 2,000 GHC (20 million cedis) to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) in support of the 32nd Edition of the Onetouch-SWAG Awards Night. Alhaji Ahmed Bandoh, Chief Executive Officer of the company said at brief presentation ceremony in Accra on Thursday, that he was touched by the efforts being made by SWAG over the past years to honour the good works of distinguished sports men and women in the country, hence the support of the event.

Known popularly as "Bahmed", he said his gesture is the beginning of a new relationship with SWAG, adding that he will commit more resources to the organisation of the next awards in 2008.

Alhaji Bahmed called on the Association to continue with its good works, which he said has contributed to the development of sports in the country. Mr Ackah Anthony, President of SWAG on behalf of the Association expressed appreciation to the company for coming to their aid. "In an era where corporate sponsorship is difficult to come by, the Association is delighted at the gesture of your company and we hope you will continue with this relationship in the coming years', he added. Mr Anthony said the donation would go a long way to help in the successful organisation of the event, which has over the past years become a high-brow national event.

This year's event is scheduled for the State House Banquet Hall, Accra on Saturday, September 1 with the President, J.A. Kuffour as the Special Guest of Honour. 25 sports men and women from over ten sporting disciplines are to be awarded for their meritorious sporting exploits. The event has so far attracted sponsorship of about 300 million cedis from Onetouch Ghana Limited, with Akosombo Textile Limited (ATL), Stanbik Bank, Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL) and Coca Cola Ghana Limited as the supporting sponsors.

It will be beamed lived by Metro TV. Other media sponsors are, Daily Graphic and Graphic Sports, Sporting Times, The Statesman, Weekend Sports, Hearts News, All Sports and 90 Minutes.

The rest are GNA Sports, TV Africa, Joy FM, Adom FM, Radio Gold, Hot FM, Pipe Radio and Citi FM.
