Muntari told to curb his enthusiasm

Harry Redknapp has said in The News that he is looking for record signing Sulley Muntari to calm things down.

'Sulley did pick up a lot of bookings last season.

'He can't to do the same here.

'There's no way we can afford to lose players when they are picking up suspensions for silly things.'

Muntari has what is described as an 'abrasive' style about him but is clearly a talented footballer, although he can sometimes get caught up in things he should not do so - or indeed has no need to.

Redknapp is not looking for him to change his style of play - and rightly so - he merely wants him to settle down a little, curb his enthusiasm if you will, so we can benefit from his quality rather than see him sitting in the stands suspended.

Redknapp also said 'we don't want him to change his game or the way he plays, he just has to be aware what he can do.

'There's no doubt the boy has ability. That's why we paid a lot of money for him.

'But he won't be able to show that if he is suspended all the time.'

Muntari may have picked up 3 red cards - all in the opening 16 games of last season - and 12 yellows but it is believed that his red cards maybe came about more out of frustration at not seeing a move away from Udinese last summer as much as anything?

A bit of extra bite in midfield is fine by me, so long as he keeps it legal and keeps himself on the pitch as it is no good having £7million worth of talent sitting in the stands when he could - and should - be on the pitch.
