Queens to shoot down Congo

The Black Queens of Ghana will on Sunday have no one to blame if they fail to beat their Congolese counterparts in Kinshasa to qualify for the group stage of the on-going Olympics games Women’s Soccer qualifiers.

Ghana last lost 6-7 on penalties after 2-2 aggregate to the Falcons of Nigeria at the Accra Stadium in a game no one can forget.The later finally qualified to represent Africa at the Athens games.

In a bid not to remember the February 14,2003 saga and probably qualify for the first time, the Black Queens have vowed to Shoot down the aggressive Congolese side who are burnt on adopting all

tricks to beat the Queens in the 2nd leg of the final knock out stage. The Queens won the first leg 3-1 with goals from Anita Amankwah,Rumanatu Tahiru and Florence Okoe.

The Congolese side has always fallen to the Queens and it will not be different this time. Said goalie Abiba Memunatu Suleiman. In 2003, Congo DR lost 1-2 to Ghana in Kinshasa and were later kicked out in Accra when the Queens walloped them 4-0.They lost 1-3 to the Queens in the last Women’s’ Cup of Nations in Nigeria in 2006.

Team leader Fred Crentsil is confident in his teams’ qualification and has again expressed appreciation to the Ghana Embassy headed by Ambassador HE Idirisu M.Biyira and the Ghana soldiers on UN Mission GHANBAT 11. GHANBAT 11 have provided security and food for the team and have also promised to provide support at the stadium during the game on Sunday.

Meanwhile, HE Biyira has commended Happy 98.9 FM for the support and interest in the promotion of women’s’ football.
