Zone Three Middle League is irrelevant - Asare

Accra, May 15, GNA - Dan Asiedu Asare, Chief Executive Officer of Sportnet, dealers in sports wear has said there is no need in organising another Middle League competition for a replacement for Nania FC after the Club was found guilty of match fixing in the just ended National Middle League.

He said such an exercise will not help the cause of Ghana football since the Ghana Football Association (GFA) might end up promoting a mediocre team into the premiership.

Asare said most of the Division One clubs seem not prepared for another competition and the premiership as well, hence the need to maintain the two clubs, and thereby relegating only two clubs from the premiership.

"I believe this is the best solution to the present dilemma the GFA finds itself in.

"I'm not speaking for or against any of the Division One Clubs nor the relegated clubs from the premiership but I'm convinced that this will bring a peaceful end to the current problem." Asare added. If Asare's suggestion is applied and adhered to it means relegated Tano Bofoakwa might be given a last minute breather in the Premiership. The Disciplinary Committee of the GFA last month demoted Nania FC to Division Three in addition to a fine of 50 million cedis when they were accused and found to have engaged in a match of convenience with Okwawu United in a bid to secure promotion into the premiership. Great Mariners and Mighty Jets were also found guilty of a similar offence and given the same punishment.

The cases are currently at the Appeals Committee of the GFA and the ruling is expected by the close of this Thursday.

The ruling of the Committee is expected to announce the mode of qualification to the premiership from the Zone. 15 May 07
