SWAG goes to the polls

Accra, Nov 6, GNA - The Sports Writers Association of Ghana will on Saturday, December 2, 2006 elect new officers to run the affairs of the association for the next four years.

The election was scheduled for last July to coincide with activities marking this year's International Day of the Sports Journalist but had to be postponed because most of the members were covering the World Cup soccer fiesta in Germany.

According to a release issued by the President of the SWAG, Ebow Quansah copied to the GNA Sports, the members adopted the recommendations of the Ackah Anthony Committee report as guidelines for the election.

He said the positions being vied for are the President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, Treasurer and two Executive Member positions.

Mr Quansah said the constitution of the Association stipulates that only members of good standing could offer themselves for office and that they must ensure the payment of their dues was up to date by December 2006 and should have been regular at meetings and other functions of the association.

The release asked members seeking the mandate to run the affairs of the Association to collect the nomination forms from the SWAG secretariat at Graphic Communications Group Limited in Accra with immediate effect.

Completed forms are to be returned with the requisite fees to Mr. Harry Mouzalas, the SWAG's Electoral Commissioner by the close of day of Wednesday, November 20, 2006.

The current administration, headed by Ebo Quansah came into office in 2002 but as a result of the postponement, the Association gave the administration the mandate to run the affairs of SWAG until new elections were held.
