Ali Baba fails to win IBA Title

Cecilio ''Boga'' Santos won a 12-round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Alex ''Ali'' Baba to claim the IBA bantamweight championship in front of a crowd of 1,000 at the Miccosukee Resort and Gaming Friday night.

Santos (21-7-2, 12 KOs) of Mexico City punished Baba of Accra, Ghana, with body shots throughout the bout. Santos scored the fight's only knockdown in the eighth round when he landed a left hook to the head that dropped the 36-year-old Baba (23-11-1, 17 KOs) to the canvas.

Santos closed the show by stunning Baba with a right hand at the end of the 12th and final round.

The three official scores were: 119-108, 119-108 and 117-110.

In other bouts: Cuban middleweight Oriol Martinez (6-5-1, 2 KOs) won a four-round unanimous decision over Puerto Rico's Henry Cruz (1-2).

Carlos Claudio (4-0-1, 1 KO) of Kissimmee knocked down Carlos Perez (7-5, 6 KOs) of Puerto Rico twice in the fourth round en route to a unanimous decision win in a six-round junior-lightweight bout.

Vincent Miranda (2-0) of Puerto Rico won a unanimous four-round decision over Hilario Guzman (6-19-4, 1 KO) from the Dominican Republic.

Junior welterweight Amaury Torres (1-1) of Miami Beach scored a four-round decision over Devaris Crayton (0-1) of Orlando.
