GUA wins Insurers Games

Accra, Oct. 21, GNA-Ghana Union Assurance (GUA) defeated State Insurance Company of Ghana Limited (SIC) 5-4 on penalties, to win the Ghana Insurers Association Fun Games held at the Aquinas Secondary School Park in Accra on Saturday.

The games, which formed part of activities marking this year's Insurance Week celebrations, saw GUA scoring four of the penalty kicks after 1-1 draw in regulation time, while their opponents scored three. Ghana Re-Insurance Organization also beat SIC 2-1 to emerge champions in the Tug-Of-War event, while Gemini Life Insurance Company won both the Men and the Ladies 100 Meters race.

Some of the activities planned for the celebration which is under the theme: "Insurance, a tool for National Development", include Media interaction, Public Lecture, Dinner Dance and Thanksgiving Service. Mr. Gabriel Glover, Executive Secretary of the association said the event aimed at strengthening the already existing cordial relationship among the insurance companies.

He asked the participants to take active interest in sports so that they would remain healthy at all times.

Mr. Glover asked the public to participate fully in the programme since it would create opportunity for them to understand how the insurance industry work and would be able to derive the best benefit from insurance.

Mr. Mahama Emmanuel Baba, President of the association, who presented the trophies to the winners, praised the participants for the sportsmanship exhibited and expressed the hope that next year's event would be improved upon.

Twenty-three insurance companies took part in the one-day games.
