Kotoko beat CS Sfaxien 4-2

Obuasi (Ash.) July 29, GNA - CS Sfaxien of Tunisia put up a spirited performance in an attempt to subdue Kumasi Asante Akotoko in their MTN/CAF Champions League but had to go down 2-4 in the match played at Len Clay stadium on Saturday.

The Tunisians took the lead when the match was only four minutes old through Blaise Kouassi when he headed home a corner.

Not deterred by the early goal, Kotoko fought hard to equalise four minutes later through Ahmed Toure=91s header from an Aziz Ansah cross. The ball zoomed into the net with goalkeeper Jaouachu Ahmed stranded.

The Kotoko defence built around Shilla Illiasu, Godfred Yeboah, Micheal Asante and Aziz Ansah could not combine effectively to ward off the prolific attackers of the Tunisians and allowed the visitors to dictate the pace.

The dominance of the Tunisians paid dividends in the 24th

minute when Kadri Mohammed restored their lead. The goal incensed the Kotoko fans, who hailed insults at Coach E.K. Afranie and his technical team, thinking that what had happened to Accra Hearts of Oak in their match against Enyimba of Nigeria where Hearts lost 0-2 was in the offing.

Kotoko however managed to find the equaliser in the 35th minute though Edmund Owusu Ansah's 40 metre thunderbolt, The skipper drove another fierce shot again in the 44th minute, but it hit the woodwork.

The Tunisians, determined to carry the day, brought in Ischola for Chaker Bergaour while Kotoko also substituted Godfred Yeboah who got injured in the 42nd minute when he collided with Nafti Abdelkain, with Osei Kwame Junior.

Kotoko took control of the game and pinned their opponents to their own half and this paid off with Osei Kwame scoring the third goal for his side in the 77th when his shot hit a defender and deflected into the net.

Nana Arhin Duah sealed the doom of the Tunisians with a relaxed and calculated curl in the 88th minute making it 4-2 in favour of Kotoko,
