Abedi & Yeboah Invited To Join Black Stars

ACCRA, Ghana (PANA) - The Italian Coach of Ghana's Black Stars, Giussepi Dossena, has invited legendary Abedi Pele and striker Tony Yeboah, of German club Hamburg to augment the team's attack in their 2002 World Cup campaign.

But the two soccer former stars of the national team have not yet responded to the call, Alhaji Jawula, chairman of the Ghana Football Association announced in Accra Friday.

Abedi announced his retirement from the national team during 1998 Africa of Nations in Burkina Faso.

Alhaji Jawula said the move was in line with the association's determination to open the doors of the Black Stars to all credible Ghanaian footballers who can contribute to the success of the team in Ghana's World Cup campaign.

He said the association is determined to ensure that the Black Stars qualify for Japan/Korea 2002 World Cup, and appealed to all stakeholders to stand up to their responsibilities.

Ghana is in group B with Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Sudan.

The Black Stars play their first match away to Sierra Leone 8 July.
