Former Black Stars German coach, Ralf Christoph Bernard Zumdick arrives in Accra today at the invitation of the new owners of Ashantigold SC, Fortia Limited.
A statement issued by Fortia stated that Zumdick accepted the invitation based on his personal relationship with Fortia’s Chief Consultant Herbert Mensah and will be in Ghana for one month.
Mensah disclosed that Zumdick is not coming to Ghana, as the head coach of Ashantigold SC but to offer technical assistance in what is primarily a four-week break from his position as assistant coach at Borussia Dortmund.
Zumdick who was first recruited to Ghana by Mensah during his tenure at Kotoko and later switched camp to King Faisal when Mensah moved camp before a successful five-month stint with the Black Stars is expected to advise Fortia and Ashantigold on the technical direction of the club.
According to Mensah, “Zumdick is here to impart his wealth of experience at top German clubs to our technical team who are readying to start the league and also revive the Ashgold academy.”
Mensah said Zumdick will not be taking up a paid job with Ashantigold during his short stay in Ghana but Acting Head Coach, Momcilo Medic from Serbia, will tap his expertise immensely.
“The Ashantigold project is a diverse one and we will not hesitate to tap the experience and knowledge of all our friends in the sporting world. Ralf’s visit which is a follow up the historic visit of Pini Zahavi to Ghana is one of many,” Mensah stated.
Zumdick has a proud resume having started his football career as a goalkeeper with Preussen Muenster in 1979 and turning coach in 1994 with VFL Bochum where he had been a player between 1981 and 1985.
