Zambia plot Ghana friendly in October

Zambia are working behind the scenes to book an international friendly with Ghana after the 2014 World Cup.

The Chipolopolo are hoping to use the game to commemorate the country’s golden jubilee as well as seek revenge after the Black Stars edged them out of the race for a slot at the 2014 World Cup. The last time the two teams met in a friendly was in August 2009 as the west Africans walloped the Copper Bullets 4-1.

The Zambian sports minister Chishimba Kambwili disclosed on Tuesday that he has engaged his Ghanaian counterpart Elvis Afriyie Ankrah for a friendly match with the Black Stars to be played at the newly constructed 60,000-seater Heroes National Stadium on Independence Day.

Kambwili said he is also in talks with the Zambia FA to make sure both sides line up their top stars for the friendly.

“The Ghana friendly is a big possibility; they (Ghana) are still considering my proposal, so we will wait and see. But again we are engaging FAZ to see if the professionals could be available during the friendly,” said Kambwili.
