The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has warned fans wishing to travel to Ghana for next month’s 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup qualifier to be careful with the people organising trips for the September 6 clash in Kumasi.
FAZ spokesperson Erick Mwanza said during a media briefing at Football House that the association had noted with concern the high number of individuals and companies that had been advertising various packages for fans willing to watch the must-win Group D qualifier against Ghana.
Mwanza said while the association appreciated the enthusiasm by fans to fly to Ghana and cheer the Chipolopolo, there was need for the fans to get in touch with FAZ to get proper advice to avoid getting stranded.
“We have noted with concern some advertisements asking fans to jump on their several packages and sadly, some of these packages are saying the match will be played on September 7 when the match is on the 6th.
“We want to urge fans to be wary of the numerous offers by seeing to it that they get a package that will get them into Kumasi by Friday otherwise they may miss out on the match if they arrived on the 7th,” he said.
Mwanza said only the Rendezvous at Longacres has approached FAZ to get the correct information about the match date, venue and also assistance with visas for the crew that would be travelling to Kumasi.
He said FAZ is encouraging fans to travel in numbers but advised that they should seek advice from the association to avoid being swindled or stuck at the airport.
Mwanza said it will be easy for FAZ to also arrange tickets for those travelling once approached adding that it is important that fans wishing to travel to West Africa take necessary precaution.
Meanwhile, Mwanza has said the squad to play Senegal on the August 14 in an international friendly would be announced after the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) first round return leg qualifier against Botswana.
