Zakari Wins 100m In Rome

ROME -- Ghana's Zakari Aziz beat a decent field of sprinters at Friday's Golden Gala meeting in Rome when he finished eighth.
Aziz won his second 100-meter race of the year in a season-best time of 10.10 seconds, while world champion Kim Collins of St. Kitts and Nevis finished third.
"I was prepared to win today. I am happy because my training partner Tonique Williams also won today, so we are on top of the world," Zakari said. "I wish the Olympics was tonight."
Collins, the surprise winner at the world championships in Paris last year, said that he felt sick and had a headache.
"I picked up a flu last week in England and it's really taken a toll on me," he said. Collins said his physical condition would not affect his preparation for next month's Olympics.
The top American sprinters stayed home to prepare for the U.S. Olympic trials.
The Golden Gala is the second in a series of six Golden League meets this year. Athletes who pick up victories in a particular event at all six events win a $1 million jackpot.
