Former Accra Hearts of Oak star, Yaw ‘Rush’ Preko believes his former club go into the upcoming Glo Ghana Premier League season under mammoth pressure to be champions.
Preko says the mere fact that Hearts have not won the league title in four years, is enough to put Coach C.K. Akunnor and his lads in anxiety given the rich history of the Phobian club. “I’ve not been to their training grounds, I’ve also not watched any of their pre-season friendly matches so I can’t say much about the squad but the pressure is on them. “Aduana Stars, Berekum Chelsea and Kotoko have won the past 3 seasons and I can’t see Accra Hearts of Oak going four years without winning the league,” Preko explained to 90 MINUTES.
He continued: “The challenge between Hearts and Kotoko fans is that if one wins this year, then next year the other have to also win. So they are under pressure but I guess they should take it easy, and take it match after match.”
Preko has also welcomed the appointment of Mahatma Otoo as new captain of the Phobians: “He deserves it and will make a good captain. He wants to be put in a position demanding responsibility. So as captain and striker, he knows he has to take responsibility and deliver for the team.”
