World XI beat Africa XI in Michael Essien charity Peace match

A World XI select side beat a Michael Essien-captained Africa XI side 4-2 at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.

The match organized by Chelsea ace Michael Essien to mark the African Union (AU) which fell today to create the awareness of Peace on the continent.

Zambia legend Kalusha Bwalya opened the scoring with a header in the first half for the Africa select side before Scott Smith equalized and Ghana legend Yaw Preko gave them a 2-1 lead into the break.

Didier Drogab came off the bench to level for the Africa but it was a day for the World XI stars who got a pair of goals from Florent Malouda and captain Ashley Cole.

Ex-Ghana striker Tony Yeboah, Nigeria legend Daniel Amokachi all made second half appearances for the Africa select side.

The fans defied the rains and turned out massively to watch the match which was described a huge success.

World XI: Nick Hamman-Lockwood Matt, Nigel de Jong, Freddie Ljungberg, Yaw Preko, Ellis Tebbunt, Quincy Owusu Abeyie, Jalloh Musa Akeem, Ashley Cole, Florenet Malouda,Scott Smith.
